What is emergency dentistry?
What to do in a dental emergency
It’s important to stay calm even though your unexpected dental injury may cause extreme stress and pain. While you may feel inclined to panic, know that almost any dental issue can be addressed, treated, and resolved by a dentist. Rest assured that our team is here to guide you back to a healthy smile.
If your mouth is bleeding from your dental injury or accident, place a strip of gauze on the afflicted area and apply pressure. This should slow the blood flow within an hour.
Ibuprofen, acetaminophen, or other similar over-the-counter medication can temporarily reduce pain and swelling. Steer clear of any blood-thinning aspirins as they will prevent clotting and may make it difficult to control the flow of blood. An ice pack to the cheek near the affected area can also help reduce pain for a short period of time.
As soon as you’ve regained control of your dental emergency, don’t hesitate to give us a call. Our team is on standby to assess the severity of your dental injury and get you in as soon as possible during our office hours.
Same-Day Dental Care
Get the care you need right away with same-day emergency care. During your visit, your dentist will perform an examination and take any necessary X-rays to assess your dental injury. We will create an immediate plan to get your smile back in shape as soon as possible. Don’t hesitate to call the office. Any delay will prolong your pain, and, in some cases, lead to you needing more complex procedures that are both more invasive and expensive.

Common Emergency Procedures
When you arrive at our office, your dentist will assess the situation and provide you with their recommended treatment options. As an example, a broken, damaged, or decayed tooth can be brought back to health with a dental crown. A toothache can have several causes, and if an underlying infection is causing your oral pain, root canal therapy may be the best option for you.
Tooth infections and abscesses are especially uncomfortable, but root canal therapy can relieve that pain in a single visit. We try to avoid tooth extractions if possible, but they can be a necessary procedure in some cases in which a patient is experiencing a severely damaged tooth that can’t otherwise be fixed.

Take a breath to calm yourself. Pick up your tooth by the top (crown) instead of the bottom (its root) to prevent further damage. Rinse the tooth under warm water. Once it is clean, press the tooth back into the socket. You can also place the tooth in cold milk to keep it moist. Bring it with you to our dental clinic.
If possible, put the restoration in a plastic bag and bring it along to the dentist. Please call to let us know you’re coming.
When a dental restoration falls out, your tooth is vulnerable to bacteria, which can contribute to an infection, fragmentation, and more decay. A loose, broken, or missing restoration is a serious issue that warrants a same-day appointment. Contact us right away. We’ll restore your smile with a new filling, crown, or other restorative dental work in no time.
If a toothache lasts more than two days, it may constitute a dental emergency. Root canal therapy might be necessary to revitalize the tooth.
Call our office immediately to schedule an appointment. Apply an ice pack to your face, take over-the-counter pain relievers, or apply Orajel to numb and soothe the pain in the meantime.
Even if you think the damage is minor, we still encourage you to call us to see if you qualify for same-day emergency care. We’ll inspect your smile to assess the severity of the chip, break, or crack on your tooth. If a broken or cracked tooth is left untreated, infections can arise and cause further complications. Make sure to give us a call and visit our office as soon as possible for a thorough examination. Your dentist will offer their best recommendations to repair and protect your smile.
Call our office immediately for a same-day appointment if an incident has caused your tooth to loosen. It’s important to receive proper care right away, as the nerves supporting your tooth could die and cause the tooth to fall out entirely. Our team is on standby to get you the emergency care you need, so don’t hesitate to reach out!
Once your visit is booked, do your best to keep the tooth as stable as possible. Touching the loose tooth with your tongue or fingers can cause further damage and accelerate an infection. At your emergency appointment, your dentist will apply a stabilizing splint to attach the loose tooth to the adjacent teeth. The splint will provide support and allow the tooth to heal and reattach to your gums.
