The Veneer Placement Process: What to Expect

Getting dental veneers requires a few trips to your dentist. The veneer placement process begins with the following steps.

_

Examining Your Teeth

First, Dr. Lincoln Fantaski will examine your teeth and discuss any concerns you may have. He will take digital X-rays to ensure that your teeth and bone structure are suited for veneers.

Anesthesia

If you're getting veneers, he may use anesthesia to reduce discomfort during the procedure.

A

Preparing Your Teeth

Preparing your teeth for the veneers typically involves removing a tiny bit of enamel from the front of your teeth, making room for the new veneers. This process usually only takes about thirty minutes.

A

Taking Measurements & Fitting the Veneers

Once the preparation phase is complete, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth to create a customized set of veneers just for you. Then, he will apply a temporary resin to keep your teeth in place until the permanent ones arrive from the lab.

How can I care for my new veneers?

Caring for new veneers isn't much different from caring for your natural teeth. You only need to brush twice daily and avoid foods that could damage or stain them. Additionally, be mindful not to bite on hard materials like nuts or ice cubes, as this can break your new veneers. We advise you to attend regular checkups with Dr. Lincoln Fantaski here at Pinewood Dentistry so he can monitor your oral health and make sure your new smile stays beautiful!

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are super thin shells made of porcelain and composite resin that cover your teeth’s enamel to hide disfigurements and other dental imperfections. Dentists bond the veneers directly to your teeth, changing their size, shape, and length, resulting in a beautiful smile. Veneers fix issues like chipped, cracked, and stained teeth. They also even out worn-out teeth by lengthening them. Contact Pinewood Dentistry to get your custom veneers today.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

The longevity of veneers primarily depends on the material it's made from. High-quality porcelain veneers usually last for twenty years or more. Ceramic veneers, on the other hand, last seven to ten years before they need replacements. Composite veneers have the shortest lifespan and will only last four to eight years before you need to replace them.

That being said, failing to maintain proper oral hygiene will compromise your veneer’s longevity. The same goes for eating a diet full of sugary foods. Both habits (or lack thereof) promote dental decay, which destroys the teeth holding your veneers.

Can You Eat With Veneers?

Yes, you can eat with veneers, but not immediately after getting them. We recommend waiting at least a couple of days before eating actual meals after getting veneers. Instead, you can eat softer foods like scrambled eggs, pudding, yogurt, and mashed potatoes. It’ll take some time before your mouth fully adapts to its new veneers.

That said, it’s also important to avoid hard and crunchy foods like nuts, raw carrots, and corn on the cob. Biting on hard foods and putting excessive pressure on your veneers could break or dislodge them. You’re better off sticking to softer foods until our dentists give you the green light.

How Much Do Veneers Cost?

The cost of dental veneers varies from one practice to the next and what type of veneer you get. Porcelain veneers, for instance, are the most expensive type, costing $500 to $2,500 per veneer. Acrylic (temporary veneers), which are the cheapest, cost $200 to $400 per arch. That said, you should expect to pay between $925 and $2,000 for veneers for your tooth.

It’s worth noting that most insurance providers don’t cover veneers since it’s a cosmetic treatment. The few that do charge hefty premiums and only cover a portion of the cost. You can consult your dentist for a veneer type that best matches your budget. Alternatively, you can discuss a payment plan that works for both you and the practice.

Can Veneers Be Removed?

Yes, veneers can be removed, but only by a licensed dentist. Veneers are permanent fixtures that the dentists bond directly to the teeth with dental cement or glue. These adhesives are meant to last for years on the teeth. However, it’s worth noting that there are removable veneers that you can remove whenever you want. These are among the most affordable veneers but last the shortest time.

Did you know…

Since veneers are commonly made from non-porous materials, they are not vulnerable to stains and will always look appealing and bright.
